CHARACTER BUILDING
As an artist, I've always been drawn to the idea of exploring the spaces and environments that shape our lives. That's why I embarked on a project that took me back to my childhood home, where I spent many formative years growing up. Over the course of three years, I took a series of photographs that aimed to shed light on the surroundings that played such a significant role in my adolescence.
Through this project, I wanted to explore the complex and often surreal nature of childhood memories. Our earliest experiences and surroundings have a profound impact on who we become as adults, and I wanted to capture that essence through my work. To do so, I utilized a unique technique that involved using on-camera flash with colored gels. This combination not only created a dreamlike quality to the images but also suggested that I had a vibrant and colorful childhood.
By revisiting my childhood home, I was able to tap into a wealth of emotions and memories that have stayed with me throughout my life. Through my photographs, I sought to evoke those same feelings in the viewer, allowing them to connect with the work on a deep and personal level. Ultimately, my hope is that this series serves as a reminder of the power of our surroundings and the impact they have on our lives, both as children and as adults.
